KCDSB Invites applications for the following 1.0 FTE Long Term Occasional position in Red Lake, ON:
Custodian
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: June 26, 2026 with possibility of extension
Location: St. John School
Hours of work: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
Salary: $47,394 - $58,979
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment in accordance with Ontario school board standards, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and board policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act professionally at all times and contribute to a safe, inclusive, respectful and accepting school environment in support of student achievement and well-being
- Perform custodial duties to ensure the overall cleanliness, sanitation and safety of all areas of the school including classrooms, offices, washrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, and common areas
- Maintain school facilities, equipment, and furnishings in a safe and serviceable condition through regular cleaning, inspection and minor maintenance
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards and participate in required health and safety training to ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with OHSA and WHMIS requirements
- Communicate with the Principal and/or Supervisor regarding facility conditions, safety concerns, work priorities and operational needs Perform custodial duties in all areas of the school facility, including indoor and outdoor spaces, and respond to emergency or after-hours cleaning requirements as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods and procedures related to public or institutional facilities
- Ability to perform ongoing moderate to heavy physical work, including prolonged standing/walking, frequent bending and repetitive motions, lifting/pushing/pulling equipment and materials, working at heights, and exposure to cleaning chemicals, weather, and environmental conditions, with flexibility to respond to emergencies.
- Must be able to carry out essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain
- Current WHMIS Certification or willingness to maintain certification
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing or carpentry work is considered an asset
- Valid driver's license preferred
