Chard is a BC-based, award-winning real estate company creating spaces that go Beyond Buildings. With projects across Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, and Calgary, they specialize in residential and commercial communities, from purpose-built rentals and market condominiums to affordable homeownership, strata, commercial, and hotel developments.
To date, Chard has completed over 1.3 million square feet and nearly 1,400 homes, with a pipeline of 2,000 more homes and half a million square feet of commercial space. By 2030, Chard is on track to be managing and operating over 3,000 homes across Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Victoria.
The company has been awarded the Provincial Award for Excellence in Housing Affordability and recognized by the Urban Development Institute with awards for Best Purpose-Built Market Rental (High Rise) and Best Non-Market Housing.
Chard continues to diversify, both geographically and in terms of product offering, through strategic partnerships, out-of-the-box creativity, and a focus on opportunities for vertical integration. In 2023, the company established Chard Property Group to provide property and asset management services for its growing portfolio of income-producing properties. With strong and stable partnerships and a significant pipeline of projects, Chard is positioned for exponential growth in the coming years.
An opportunity now exists for a highly strategic legal professional to join Chard in this broad, business-focused role as Vice President, Legal & Strategic Initiatives. Reporting to the President & CEO and serving as a key business partner to the executive team, the VP will play a central role in Chard’s growth, acting as both legal steward and strategic partner. This is not a typical legal role. The VP will be a core member of the leadership team, positioned at the intersection of law and business strategy, unlocking new markets and shaping the future of real estate in BC and beyond. Working alongside the CEO and executive team, they will forge innovative partnerships with government and institutions, expand Chard’s footprint into new regions, and help structure complex deals that advance the company’s long-term vision. The VP will be the legal mind behind Chard’s most ambitious projects, balancing risk and opportunity, and ensuring the business moves forward with confidence.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, business-focused legal professional with both large firm and in-house experience, having advised on a broad range of corporate commercial matters, including deal structuring, partnerships, compliance and risk management, and contract negotiation. Specific experience in real estate development, construction, or asset management would be ideal, but not required. They are known as a pragmatic, solutions-oriented advisor who balances risk with opportunity, providing seasoned, business-friendly counsel that keeps deals moving, protects the company’s interests, and helps shape new ventures. From acquisitions and financing to strategic partnerships and retail leasing, the VP will balance risk and reward while building trust with executives, project leaders, and external partners.
