Mac-Weld Machining Ltd. is seeking a Buyer to take on the task of sharing our vision locally and globally.
Skills & Responsibilities
- Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
- Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
- Research and evaluate areas of opportunity to reduce costs where possible
- Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
- Develop briefs, updates and reports as needed and when required
- Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
- Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
- Explore alternate sources for goods and materials
- Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers
- Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and in line with organizational targets and requirements
- Communicate with the Production and Sales Departments on material issues
- Communicate with the Accounting Department to resolve billing issues
- Contact suppliers in a professional manner to resolve price, quality, and delivery or invoice issues
- Adhere to Mac-Weld Quality Management system requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or Business is an asset
- 1-5 years of buying/purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
- Experience with supplier managed inventory
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings
- Basic knowledge of metal fabrication
- Strong Math Skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
This is a full-time permanent position in our Sarnia facility.
Salary: $ 24 – $ 30 per hour based on education and experience
Signing Bonus: New regular employees will receive a signing bonus of $500 after successfully completing their three month probationary period, and $1000 after one year of continuous employment. The employee must be on active payroll for the entire timeframe to qualify. Contract positions do not qualify for the signing bonus.
