The Constitutional Law Branch is looking for a lawyer to fill a position as Crown Counsel. This is a renewable one-year contract position, potentially leading to a permanent position.

Saskatchewan’s Constitutional Law Branch has a long tradition of excellence.

What Do We Do?
The Branch does a wide variety of work dealing with the division of powers, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, human rights law, Indigenous law, and domestic and international trade law.
The work of the Branch involves:
- advising government ministries and agencies;
- conducting litigation before administrative tribunals and at all levels of court in Saskatchewan and elsewhere, including before the Supreme Court of Canada;
- assisting client ministries in negotiations with the federal government and third parties;
- providing policy advice to government and assisting with training of government officials and stakeholders;
- working collaboratively within the Public Law Division to support the Government’s legislative initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate must:
- be eligible for admission to the Law Society of Saskatchewan;
- have strong academic credentials;
- have excellent research and writing skills;
- have strong oral advocacy skills;
- be willing to appear before administrative tribunals and courts on a regular basis;
- be willing to travel both within and outside the province;
- be able to work both individually and collaboratively as a member of a team;
- be able to think creatively and strategically and to find practical solutions to complex problems;
- be able to deal effectively with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
An interest in Indigenous law and/or human rights law would be considered an asset.
