Qualifications
ISSIP REQUIREMENTS:

Must be Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit, Metis).

Must be registered at the University of Manitoba as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in both terms (Fall 2025 and Winter 2026). Students must have a minimum 60% course load (at least 9 credit hours per term for undergraduate students).
EDUCATION:
-
Enrolled in the Faculty of Science (any level and all fields eligible).
EXPERIENCE:
-
No prior experience required, but an interest in pursuing a science-related career upon graduation is an asset.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Enthusiastic about learning with a commitment to continuous professional growth.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Wawatay to support initiatives that bring together Indigenous and Western knowledge systems within the Faculty of Science, contributing to meaningful projects that enhance the student experience.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of Wawatay Orientation and related outreach activities, gaining hands-on experience within a dynamic and interdisciplinary science environment.
- Support the coordination of workshops and student engagement activities, developing practical communication, organization, and event support skills that are transferable across career paths.
- Participate in outreach and engagement efforts with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, supporting the inclusion of diverse perspectives in science.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Dean’s Office, to support projects, communications, and events connected to Wawatay initiatives, while working closely with Indigenous faculty and staff to receive mentorship and contribute to Wawatay initiatives.
