The Research Ethics & Governance Administrator is responsible for the administration and operational support of SAIT’s academic research ethics and governance processes. The role ensures the ethical, compliant, and responsible conduct of research in alignment with Tri-Agency requirements, including Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS 2), institutional research policies, privacy and confidentiality standards, and applicable legislation.
The position provides guidance and support to faculty, staff, and student researchers throughout the research ethics and governance lifecycle and supports consistent application of institutional policies and procedures. The Research Ethics & Governance Administrator is a key member of the Unified Research Council, SAIT’s institution-wide coordinating body for research activity, and contributes operational, ethics, and governance expertise to support alignment, coordination, and follow-through across the research enterprise.
The role works closely with the Research Data Manager, Research Ethics Boards, and central service units to support effective research governance and risk management.
How you'll contribute
Research Ethics Administration & Review
- Coordinate and administer research ethics review processes including submission intake, screening, review workflows, approvals, amendments, and renewals
- Support the operation of Research Ethics Boards including meeting coordination, documentation, records management, and decision tracking
- Ensure ethics reviews are conducted in accordance with TCPS 2, institutional policies, and funder requirements
Research Governance & Policy Implementation
- Support the implementation and maintenance of institutional research ethics and governance policies, procedures, and guidance materials
- Contribute to the development of tools, templates, and documentation that promote consistent and high-quality ethics and governance practices
- Monitor emerging issues, trends, or risks related to research governance and escalate as appropriate
Unified Research Council Support & Institutional Coordination
- Support Unified Research Council operations including agenda preparation, documentation, action tracking, and follow-through on governance, policy, and coordination decisions
- Coordinate with academic units and central service areas to support implementation of Council-related actions and initiatives
- Support alignment between research ethics, governance requirements, and broader institutional research priorities as articulated through the Council
- Support reporting for various academic research initiatives
Training, Education & Continuous Improvement
- Support development and delivery of training and reference materials related to research ethics, responsible conduct of research, and governance requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement of ethics and governance processes, systems, and tools, including ethics administration systems and workflows
- Support quality assurance, documentation standards, and process consistency across ethics and governance activities
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Research Administration, Library/Information Studies, Information Systems, or a relevant discipline is required
- 3-5 years experience in research ethics administration, research governance, research compliance, or a related field
- Master's degree in or formal training in research ethics, research administration, or a related field would be considered an asset
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of research ethics and governance frameworks
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain regulatory and policy requirements clearly
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion
- Ability to work collaboratively across academic and administrative units
