Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) is currently looking to fill a Traffic Engineering Community and Industry Liaison. The Government of Manitoba offers a complete and comprehensive benefit package which includes: paid vacation, extended health, health spending, dental/drug/vision, long term disability, supportive employment program, maternity/parental leave, defined pension plan (some pension plans allow for portability between the Civil Service Superannuation Board and employers).

Must possess and maintain a valid full-stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence without restrictions.

Must be able to travel to work sites by vehicle and/or air transportation with occasional overnight stays.

Must be able to work occasional extended hours or periods of time as project demands.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Related post-secondary education/training in the areas of vehicle dynamic performance characteristics, vehicle safety, and highway operations. A suitable combination of road safety, transportation/trucking industry experience may be considered.
- Relevant work experience with highway safety, highway planning, design, construction, and maintenance principles.
- Experience with the business of vehicle weights and dimensions (including the dynamic performance of commercial vehicles).
- Related management experience with demonstrated strengths in leadership and supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of the commercial vehicle sector, its legislative and regulatory framework, and vehicle weight and dimension policies, standards, and regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial vehicle safety practices, specifications and policies as well as emerging national and international trends in the commercial surface transportation sector.
- Experience preparing and delivering effective presentations and conduct public/stakeholder engagement consultations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to use logical and creative thought processes.
Duties:
The Traffic Engineering Community and Industry Liaison serves as a technical resource to both Highway Engineering Services and Water Engineering and Operations Divisions, assessing and making recommendations regarding the relationship between technical standards and regulatory requirements/policy enforcement as they pertain to safe and efficient traffic movements by commercial motor carriers. The position is responsible for developing relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders within MTI, local governments, indigenous communities and the trucking/transportation industry. The duties include undertaking desktop research and environmental scanning on a range of matters relating to traffic engineering and the trucking industry, and identifying potential pressures, trends and issues from an operational perspective.
The Traffic Engineering Branch provides specialized traffic operations, engineering support, and data to guide the installation and operation of all traffic control devices and accessories. This work supports provincial priorities related to the safety and efficiency of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on the highway network.
