To be considered for this competition you must be enrolled in a registered co-op program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and eligible for a Work Term during the specified period. Students must upload proof of enrolment in a co-op program when completing your application. Job Summary The City of Mississauga is hiring three co-op students for the Compliance and Licensing section who are responsible for enforcement of City by-laws by interpreting the by-laws and communicating these to the general public. These positions require you to work Monday to Friday, 8.30 am - 4.30 pm. 35 hours a week.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high degree of service for both internal and external customers in accordance with City standards
  • Enforcement of regulatory By-laws focused on, but not limited to: Nuisance Weed and Tall Grass Control ByLaw, Debris and Anti-Littering By-Law and The Property Standards By-Law
  • Attend properties to investigate complaints, generating detailed notes and collecting photographs and other evidence as required
  • Correspondence with property owners, complainants, other City departments, and elected officials
  • Achieve compliance directly with property owners with an emphasis on discussion and education
  • Issue Notices of Contravention(s) or Property Standards Orders when necessary
  • Conduct thorough complaint investigations in order to achieve compliance, including undertaking remedial and/or court action
  • Maintain confidentiality of all actions, records, and discussions undertaken during the course of duties
  • Assisting other Municipal Law Enforcement Officers, as required
  • Comply with corporate and departmental policies and procedures
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills And Qualifications This position reports to the Manager, Compliance and Licensing, or designate and is expected to start May 4, 2026 and end August 28, 2026

  • Enrolled in a co-op program of a recognized community college program of law enforcement, security, criminal justice or related course
  • Experience and proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office products such as word, outlook, excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflict and present complex issues tactfully and accurately
  • Ability to travel between multiple work sites within the City for time-sensitive work-related travel. Access to a personal vehicle, is required. (use of personal vehicle will be compensated at an established per km rate)

Hourly Rate/Salary: 20.29 - 24.11

Hours of Work: 35

Work Location: 950 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Mississauga

Work Model : This is an on-site role requiring presence in the office five days per week
