About the role

Uken is looking for a Game Designer II to become a driving force on one of our game teams. This role will work closely with Developers and Artists to create amazing, fun, mobile game experiences. If you’re passionate about crafting meaningful systems, designing fun and challenging levels, and making smart, data-informed decisions — we’d love to hear from you. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), 12 month contract position.

You’ll be working on meaningful things like:

  • Collaborating on new game concepts through pitch documents, core loops, and detailed GDDs
  • Designing and balancing core systems such as economy, progression, meta features, and level structures
  • Prototyping and testing new mechanics and game systems, iterating quickly based on feedback
  • Brainstorming and managing game content to expand and improve the game including 2D + 3D assets, levels, and copy, ensuring that they match the goals and themes of the game
  • Working closely with engineers to ensure implementation aligns with design intent
  • Evaluating mocks and UX flows to ensure the game’s design vision is met
  • Designing and calibrating game content to support key metrics like retention, engagement, and monetization
  • Using player data, analytics, peer feedback, and community insight to prioritize and iterate on your designs
  • Taking full ownership of features from concept to live operation, tracking performance and making informed adjustments
  • Researching and deconstructing competitor games, identifying emerging trends and opportunities
  • Building balancing calculators, economy sheets, and other tools to fine-tune gameplay and level pacing

Your background should include:

  • 3–5 years of game design experience, preferably on mobile F2P titles
  • Experience shipping at least one large-scale game or several smaller F2P projects
  • Strong understanding of F2P game mechanics, systems design, and level design principles
  • Proficiency in creating cohesive GDDs, feature specs, and player-centric design document
  • Comfort using spreadsheets for balancing, modeling, and economy design
  • A framework for building level based games, including building, testing, and refining levels
  • A data-informed mindset — you know how to interpret metrics and translate them into actionable design decisions
  • Clear, confident communication — you can explain design rationale to both creative and technical stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a hunger to grow, take ownership, and contribute meaningfully to the team’s success

About Us

At Uken, we create games that people everywhere love. In 2025, we partnered with Mattel to release Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked, a match-3 puzzle game that brings beloved toys to life in a playful, nostalgic way. Before that, in 2020, we launched Ava’s Manor, a solitaire renovation game where players renovate and decorate the manor while uncovering mysterious clues and dabbling in a romantic storyline. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Jeopardy! World Tour remains the top two trivia games engaging millions of players around the world every month.

We consider ourselves data-driven designers, technologists, and artists. Through collaboration, we pair the craft of design with feedback and data to deliver a pace and rhythm in each game session that immerses our audience and leaves them wanting more. We have a quirky, nerdy culture that fosters creativity, collaboration, quality ideas, and a data-driven mindset. We believe in moving quickly and improving constantly, and that mantra is reflected in the weekly updates we make to our games and internal technologies. We have an appetite for pushing technical boundaries but with a focus on practical use. We take entertainment seriously.
