Description

The IT Manager, Web/Mobile Shipping Experience leads the product strategy, roadmap, and end-to-end delivery for Purolator's portfolio of customer-facing web and mobile shipping applications. This is a hybrid role that combines the strategic, stakeholder-facing accountabilities of a Technical Product Manager with the day-to-day execution discipline of a Product Owner.

Acting as the voice of the customer, the Manager defines the product vision, owns the backlog, partners closely with engineering and design teams, and manages a small team of product and technical resources. The role is accountable for ensuring that Purolator's digital shipping experience delivers measurable business outcomes and aligns with our enterprise digital strategy.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and oversee the strategy and roadmap for the web/mobile shipping experience portfolio to achieve business outcomes and financial objectives.
  • Monitor business, market, and technology trends to inform product direction and proactively propose new solutions.
  • Establish product roadmaps and release plans that satisfy stakeholder requirements and deliver measurable value.
  • Define, track, and communicate KPIs to measure product performance and contribution to business goals.
  • Manage investment decisions and product finances using a return-on-investment approach to maximize value while controlling cost.

Product Ownership & Agile Delivery

  • Act as the voice of the customer to guide all stages of software development, from discovery through release.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable product and technical requirements; author and refine user stories with clear functional and non-functional criteria.
  • Prioritize and maintain the product backlog; ensure the team has a clear understanding of priorities and next steps.
  • Lead and participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, story refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Work with development teams to define acceptance criteria, definitions of done, and definitions of failure; support test case and regression test development.
  • Lead sprint review meetings to demonstrate output to business stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management & Customer Focus

  • Develop strong relationships and regularly communicate with product stakeholders and customers to shape product strategy and surface and prioritize needs.
  • Establish customer feedback loops to measure and track value delivered by the product.
  • Set expectations with business stakeholders for delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, verbally and in writing.

People Leadership

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of 1–5 product and technical professionals.
  • Determine internal and external resources and skills required to deliver on the product roadmap.
  • Resolve technical, resourcing, and organizational blockers to keep the team productive.
  • Foster a culture of customer-centricity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Governance, Standards & Adoption

  • Ensure alignment and adherence to corporate, financial, and IT standards (architecture, compliance, security, accessibility/AODA).
  • Drive adoption and consumption of product capabilities across the customer base.
  • Continuously evaluate product value delivered and champion improvements.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic (vision, roadmap) and tactical (backlog, sprint) levels.
  • Advanced knowledge of agile development methodologies and tooling (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong relationship building and collaboration skills across diverse and matrixed stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, including the use of data to inform decision making.
  • Strategic planning and business acumen; demonstrated success in defining and building product roadmaps.
  • Technical literacy in web and mobile application architectures, APIs, cloud services, integration patterns, and UX principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Customer-centric mindset with experience working directly with end users and customer-facing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent years of experience).

  • 8–12 years of progressive experience combining product management, product ownership, and/or technical leadership in IT.

  • Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing web and/or mobile application products.

  • 4+ years of direct people management experience.

  • Hands-on experience working in agile/Scrum environments.

  • Product certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), or SAFe Agile Product Manager are an asset.

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, e-commerce, or supply chain industries is preferred.

  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
