Currently, our Strategy, Data, Performance and Project Delivery department is hiring for a Manager, Information Technology.

The Manager, Information Technology is responsible for leading a team of IT Professionals in operating and maintaining the Bruce Power IT Systems, and providing design function, project support, and 3rd tier troubleshooting for systems. With a focus of Enterprise Data Management, this role is accountable for delivery and maintenance of data platforms, databases and integrations as well as own the data governance standard and common practices for Bruce Power. This role will set the strategy and work collaboratively with the business to ensure alignment to data and reporting standards in support of achieving organizational priorities.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Develops and manages the work program of the Section, ensuring work is planned and scheduled, and priorities are understood.
  • Manages the Section in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures and agreements.
  • Leads and continuously develops a team of IT professionals to ensure there is both a current and future capability to deliver on the work program of the section.
  • Ensures that all personnel in the Section are appropriately trained for the tasks delegated to them and have appropriate qualifications and authorization.
  • Monitors performance and initiates any actions necessary to correct any adverse trends.
  • Interfaces with other business leaders both inside and outside of IT in delivering the work program, dealing with issues that arise between work groups.
  • Develops and communicate future plans and goals to all staff.
  • Makes recommendations on strategy, policies, compliance and communications.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Set the priorities of the team including consideration of division milestones, team goals, project requirements, strategic roadmap, end of life and lifecycle planning for owned systems including data service platforms, data governance solutions, data bases and integrations.
  • Accountable for the planning and execution of business continuity capabilities for Enterprise Data Management.
  • Accountable for risk identification, management, and mitigation within Enterprise Data Management.
  • Interface with stakeholders both inside and outside of IT in delivery of the Data Management services.
  • Enforce, refine, and develop standards, procedures, and processes for the Enterprise Data Management team.
  • Develop and manage Data Governance Program, adjusting deployment for successful adoption at Bruce Power.
  • Continuously improve the operations of systems and supporting processes using ITIL principles.
  • Accountable for excellence in team’s adherence to IT incident, major incident, change and problem management processes.
  • Proactively researching and championing courses of action to resolve and prevent problems and to maintain high service levels for the user community.
  • Manage relations with key partners providing Managed Task and Application Managed services to deliver the capabilities of the section.
  • Manage contracts in alignment with contracted performance deliverables, financial budgets and agreements. Facilitate contract renewals and negotiate successful outcomes for Bruce Power.
  • Manage the financial aspects of the section including forecasting, accruals, month end cost variance analysis, adherence to monthly and yearly budget and reporting on cost compliance.
  • Lead business planning for the section including 5-year strategic commitments and financial planning in alignment with IT’s long-term technology strategy.
  • Identify opportunities and champion continuous improvement for application optimization, redesign, or process improvement.
  • Balance competing constraints including but not limited to scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources and risks to accommodate the needs of Bruce Power.
  • Team leadership including recruiting, onboarding, training, assessing, and career development for employees.
  • Provide after-hours on-call oversight during on call rotation periods.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent organization, planning, time management and project management abilities.
  • Proven ability to establish excellent working relationships with both internal and external contacts at all levels is key.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills.
  • Proven financial and commercial/contract management capabilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of English - oral and written, necessary to provide effective instructions, technical advice, presentations and preparation of various types of reports pertinent to work performed.
  • Strong client focus with ability to collaborate to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Understanding of Enterprise Data Management technologies including data platforms, integration solutions, governance and reporting solutions preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • This knowledge is normally acquired through a 4-year bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field.
  • A period of 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
