##About the Opportunity

We are looking for aDirector, Regulatory & Public Affairs BCto join our Centerra Corporate team. This is a primarily remote role within British Columbia, with regular travel required.

In accordance with Project sites and Centerra protocols and policies, this role oversees the management of regulatory and public affairs (including indigenous, government and public relations) and supporting permitting activities across British Columbia. This involves optimizing relationships with federal and provincial governments, First Nations, and communities to manage external risks.

This position also directly supports the Environmental teams at each of the sites through permitting support, compliance monitoring and directly manages the Regulatory & Public Affairs team, currently comprised of 6 roles, regionally. Contributes to the successful permitting for the Mt. Milligan extensions, Kemess Restart, and all operational authorizations.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support British Columbia’s managers to meet company environmental and public affairs commitments and comply with local, provincial, and federal environmental and social (including indigenous consultation and engagement) regulatory obligations, social commitments, and relevant international standards and corporate policies.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including but not limited to Finance, Contracts and Procurement, Operations, Projects, Technical Services, Health & Safety, Human Resources, etc.
  • Guide the process for establishing, managing and monitoring the sustainability program (e.g. environmental and public affairs) goals and objectives for all sites, measuring performance, and making recommendations regarding the design and implementation of corrective actions to address variances.
  • Provide direct technical advice and guidance to site environmental and public affairs teams as required.
  • Support the full implementation of all Centerra Environmental and Social compliance and disclosure requirements.
  • Participate in site budget reviews in collaboration with the site Environmental and Public Affairs team to ensure adequate resources are allocated to environmental and sustainability risk management and key company strategies/priorities.
  • Keep updated on regulatory and public affairs trends – including knowledge of international standards, developments and new technologies – to ensure that the company benefits from best practices and solutions. This includes but is not limited to developing BC standards for environmental management and public affairs.
  • Focus on strengthening collaboration with all BC operational functions to ensure an integrated and consistent company approach to environmental and public affairs performance management.
  • Lead, organize and attend internal meetings and training as required to contribute to Centerra’s overall organizational knowledge of environmental and community relations practices.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Vice President, BC Regulatory and Public Affairs.

##About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • A minimum of 10+ years environmental and public affairs experience in mining or a related industry, at least 5 years of which should have been in significant environmental and or community relations management positions.
  • Degree in Science, Engineering, Social or related field.
  • Leadership and management competencies: to lead the environmental and social function within British Columbia.
  • Results oriented: to ensure that there is correct prioritization and focus on environmental and community relations challenges within the organization; to establish accountability for achieving targets and results.
  • Emphasis on service and support: to encourage and maintain a service mindset and ethic amongst company environmental and community relations personnel; to develop co-operative relationships and provide the quality of support required by the organization.
  • Teamwork: to promote teamwork and mutual support within and across the environmental and community functions; to partner effectively with internal stakeholders (site management/other related disciplines) to achieve results.
  • Decision making and problem solving: to be able to take effective and timely decisions and create workable solutions to address difficulties and obstacles faced by the environmental function.
  • Cultural sensitivity: to communicate and deal appropriately with employees in the broader Centerra organization (and indigenous and local communities as required) to drive environmental and social performance improvement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including active listening, and public speaking.
  • Valid Canadian drivers’ license.
