Position: Certified Tree Worker

Type of Vacancy : CUPE Permanent Full-time

Hours Per Week: 40 hours

Work Location(s): Service Centre (3200 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls)

Rate of Pay: $33.53 to $34.89 plus, a comprehensive benefits package and defined benefit retirement pension.

The following description reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the position identified, and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in such classification.

Position Summary:

  • Uphold safe and effective tree maintenance.

Responsible For:

  • Trim and fell trees.
  • Plant and/or maintain trees on City properties.
  • Operate trucks over 11000 kg GVW with specialized equipment such as Aerial Device or Knuckle Booms.
  • Must Climb trees to remove / trim trees in a safe manor.
  • Hazard Assessment and work site safety.
  • Repair, maintain and clean equipment. Including greasing equipment, sharpening saws and inspection of ropes rigging equipment and PPE.
  • Ensures safety equipment is maintained and functional.
  • Design and install traffic control as per MTO book 7.
  • Required to assist with site cleanup, reinstate boulevards after stumping operations.
  • Responsible for completing required work documentation and advising on follow up work through OMS system.
  • Perform pre trip inspections on vehicles, aerial devices knuckle boom, chippers in compliance with legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum is a High School Diploma.
  • ISA Tree Worker Specialist Certification or equivalent.
  • A valid Class ‘D’ driver’s license with ‘Z’ endorsement.
  • At least one (1) year of proven practical arboriculture experience planting, trimming and felling trees.
  • Valid Working at Heights Certification.
  • Proficient at aerial rescue and bucket evacuation.
  • Chainsaw operator certification.
  • Chipper training and awareness.
  • Tree felling course.
  • 0–8-ton Crane Certification.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR.
  • Valid MTO Book 7.
  • Completion of EUSA/IHSA course Line Awareness.
  • Required to lift heavy object over 25kg (55lbs).
  • Familiar with all aspects of Arborist Safe Work Practices, Hazard Risk Assessment, Tree Biology, Structure and Basic Tree ID.
  • Familiar with modern climbing systems and rigging applications related to the Arboriculture Industry.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoors, working at heights, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, vehicle traffic and dangerous work sites.
  • Frequent exposure to noise, fumes, vibrations, dust, grease and oil.

Equipment and Tools Used:

  • Chain saws, hand saws, pole saws, pruners, axes, brush chipper, specialized PPE, rigging equipment, aerial devices, knuckle booms, stump grinders, grease gun, small hand tools.
