The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Surveyor at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7x7 schedule, day shift rotation.

Position Surveyor Location Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Short Range Planning, the Surveyor provides essential field surveys for our Mining Operations and Engineering teams. Your work directly supports production through providing field layout and survey pickups, staking ore boundaries, and digital mapping. You will be responsible for collecting accurate data that is critical to mine planning, production reconciliation, and ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel on site.
Responsibilities
- Champion a safe work environment by ensuring site compliance with company programs and both Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia,
- Conduct daily operational surveys to support production, including face pickups, laying out blast patterns, staking ore boundaries, and providing shovel grade control,
- Prepare and manage clear documentation for all survey activities,
- Processing and management of all collected survey data,
- Ensure data accuracy by performing quality control checks on all pickups and layouts,
- Update digital site models, calculate volumes, and produce as-built drawings,
- Provide survey support for construction projects by laying out designs and performing as-built surveys for site infrastructure,
- Supporting the engineering team on projects as required,
- Perform other duties as required to support the survey and engineering teams.
Education & Experience
- A technical diploma in mining, survey or a related field or equivalent experience,
- 1 - 3 years of open pit mining experience,
- Experience with Trimble surveying equipment or equivalent is considered an asset,
- Experience with GEOVIA (Surpac) software or equivalent is considered an asset,
- Experience Piloting Drones,
- Transport Canada RPAS Basic and/or Advanced (Drone) license considered an asset,
- Proficient user of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Google Suite,
- Possess a valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license.
Required Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills,
- Skilled in unsupervised use of modern survey equipment, including total stations, GPS equipment and 3D scanners,
- Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork, including navigating uneven terrain while carrying equipment,
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure,
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team,
- Experience with or a willingness to learn emerging survey technologies, such as drone operation for data capture,
- Require to meet the pre-employment test requirements.
Working Conditions
- Navigate active mining and construction areas by vehicle and on foot, often on uneven terrain and in various weather conditions,
- Frequently lift and carry survey equipment weighing up to 20 kgs.,
- Work in a collaborative team setting, participating in both scheduled and impromptu meetings.
Salary Range $85K - $100K / annum
