##Responsibilities
The Research Manager oversees and allocates work assignments and functions to support a program, research project, department or other business unit. The incumbent will participate in the development of processes, provide expertise in response to client needs, and offer support and advice for process improvements or modified client services. The Research Manager will support the implementation of a variety of strategies, systems and procedures. The incumbent will serve as a principal source of information regarding administrative functions, and will monitor, provide analysis, information and reports for review and forecasting. The Research Manager will also participate in hiring, developing, scheduling and overseeing staff.
Qualifications
Education:
-
Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration
-
PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Rehabilitation Sciences, Health Sciences, Psychology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline), with clinical training as an Occupational Therapist (OT) preferred and demonstrated expertise in fitness to drive
Experience:
-
2 years' work experience in a related field preferred
-
5 years' of administrative, human resources, and/or financial experience
-
Experience managing staff and projects; experience with strategy implementation and operationalization preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of phase 2 of the CIHR-funded research project, including timelines, milestones, budgets, and deliverables, to ensure alignment with approved protocols and funding requirements
- Coordinate study activities across investigators, research staff, partner organizations, and data collection sites, facilitating efficient implementation of recruitment, data collection, and knowledge translation activities
- Provide leadership to research assistants and trainees by setting priorities, supporting training and capacity building, and fostering a collaborative, accountable, and ethical research environment
- Engage youth participants, community partners, and key stakeholders in meaningful and culturally appropriate ways to support recruitment, retention, and co-informed interpretation of findings related to cannabis-impaired driving
- Ensure compliance with CIHR policies, institutional ethics approvals, data governance standards, and reporting requirements, including preparation of progress reports, documentation, and audit-ready records
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Familiarity with best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Familiarity with financial budgeting and principles
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Analytical skills in the areas of financial and business management to draft proposals, forecast expenses and monitor other relevant outcomes
- Ability to effectively drive and manage change initiatives that align with organizational strategies and/or provide opportunities to increase efficiency
- Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
- Ability to promote individual growth by encouraging others to learn new skills and develop themselves
