Position Overview:
We are looking for a Yard Manager to oversee daily operations and ensure the efficient flow of equipment, materials, trucks, and yard staff. This role is critical to keeping the yard organized, safe, and productive. The ideal candidate is a steady leader who can coordinate multiple moving parts, make informed decisions quickly, and keep the operation running without delays.
The wage range for this position is between $80,000 - $90,000 depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe yard by keeping lanes clear and equipment in designated areas.
- Lead and support yard staff, ensuring safety standards, productivity, and teamwork are upheld.
- Control all yard movement—trucks, bins, and equipment—keeping operations flowing in their respective zones without delays.
- Coordinate with operators, dispatch, and scales to manage traffic and workflow in real time.
- Monitor and track what’s in the yard, what’s arriving, and what’s leaving, making clear decisions as needed.
- Serve as the main point of contact for customers, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring professional interactions.
- Report on KPIs / Metrics to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ management experience in the recycling or construction industry with exposure to fast-moving operations.
- Proven management skills with the ability to direct and motivate a team.
- Strong communication and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Experience working around heavy equipment and or heavy trucks (directing, not operating).
- Strong presence and work ethic, leading by example.
- Solid computer knowledge (Excel, scheduling, reporting); Google Workspace experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of scrap metal commodities, equipment maintenance is considered an asset.
