About the role
Your Opportunity: Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable and mature individual for the position of Driver II that is dedicated to both high-quality work and safety. This Casual position is located at the Food Service Centre. The Driver II position is responsible for transporting patient meal carts and other various products from one location to another in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices. Drivers at AHS operate clean, new 5-Ton trucks with reefers. Working independently, this position requires adhering to routes and schedules, manual materials handling including loading and offloading of trucks, use of pallet jacks, working within established routines and other ad-hoc duties. This position is a great opportunity for a driver who enjoys working a variety of shifts delivering patient meal trays to various Edmonton Hospitals and contributing in a meaningful way to our patients. Since this position will involve interactions with customers, other AHS staff and members of the public, excellent customer service skills and a courteous and positive attitude are essential. Description:
As a Driver II, you will be responsible for the transportation of a range of products including but not limited to mail, pharmaceuticals, medical surgical supplies, beds, medical equipment, food, mail and linen, in accordance with accepted AHS standards, regulations and policies. You will pick up and deliver patients to appointments and other institutions/facilities. In addition, you will deliver patient trays, equipment and medical supplies to institutions/facilities.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator's Licence. Completion of valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certificate.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience driving a 5-Ton truck with reefers is required. Minimum of 2 years of driving experience is required. Basic computer knowledge and use of tablets is required. The physical ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, reach for and carry material is required. Frequent pushing and pulling of carts and palletized loads while loading and unloading trucks is required. Must be able to do occasional heavy lifting. The ability to work in seasonal temperatures and weather conditions is required. Must also have the ability to work in refrigerated and/or noisy environments. A clear driver’s abstract, not older than 30 days is required. For safety purposes, the ability to read, write and speak in English is required and the successful candidate must be able to follow oral and written directions. The successful candidate must be prepared to submit to a driver assessment check ride and participate in required Alberta Health Services training and orientation as directed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent driving and delivery experience is preferred. Knowledge of, and the ability to use material handling equipment such as motorized pallet jacks, hydraulic lifts etc. is desirable. Knowledge of Hours of Service rules and the National Safety Code for drivers is an asset.
