Position Overview
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Personal Support Workers to provide personalized care to clients in their homes throughout the Greater Toronto Area. This role offers flexible scheduling, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships while helping clients maintain their independence at home.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care & Daily Living Support:
- Provide personal care to clients as outlined in individualized care plans
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene assistance, and linen changes
- Assist clients with transfers, ambulation, and prescribed exercises
- Help with toileting, incontinence care, and mobility support
Companionship & Emotional Support:
- Provide companionship and emotional support to promote client well-being
- Engage clients in meaningful activities and social interaction
- Offer reassurance and maintain client dignity at all times
Household & Meal Support:
- Prepare meals in accordance with client and/or family requests (must be open to preparing different cuisines)
- Perform light housekeeping tasks necessary to help clients maintain independence at home
- Assist with laundry, grocery shopping, and errands as needed
Health Monitoring & Documentation:
- Assist with medication reminders as per established care plans (within PSW scope of practice)
- Monitor and document changes in client condition
- Complete accurate records and documentation
- Identify and report client care concerns to supervisors when needed
Professional Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare team members
- Function within the limits of own experience and knowledge, practicing safely and competently
- Follow all safety protocols and infection control procedures
- Meet safety needs of clients and use equipment safely and properly
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification:
- Valid Personal Support Worker certificate from Ontario Ministry of Health approved program OR International nursing/healthcare certification
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid WHMIS 2015 Certificate of Completion
Professional Requirements:
- Current and valid Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) Registration
- Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (current within 12 months)
- Negative TB Test (completed within last 12 months)
- Current immunizations as required by public health authorities
- COVID vaccination receipts (subject to exemptions pursuant to Ontario's Human Rights Code)
Skills & Attributes:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English
- Physical ability to perform job duties including lifting, transferring, and mobility assistance
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to client care
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
- Flexibility and adaptability to client needs and schedules
- Professional appearance and demeanor
Assets (Preferred but not required):
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable vehicle
- Experience working with seniors, including those with Alzheimer's and dementia
- GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) certification
- Multilingual capabilities
What We Offer
Competitive Compensation:
- Starting wage: $22.00-$25.00/hour based on experience
- Overtime: Time and a half for hours worked over 44 hours per week
