Position Description:
As a member of the Educational Services leadership team, the Special Education Coordinator will provide system supports, professional learning/capacity building and consultation to Elementary and Secondary in-school teams. In addition, the Special Education Coordinator will support Learning Program Support Teacher Professional Learning, Maltby Centre/LDSB Educational partnership program Autism Behaviour Classroom (ABC), and supports (Targeted Transitions for Students, Connections for Students, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), and Sonderly Training Opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

Knowledge and experience with K-12 curriculum instruction
-
Extensive knowledge of IEP development and implementation
-
Experience with the use of assistive technology
-
Knowledge of and experience in implementing UDL practices and strategies
-
Knowledge of and experience in supporting students with a variety of exceptionalities
-
Understanding of Board and Ministry special education policies and practices
-
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ABA in schools as well as strategies and community supports for students with Autism
-
Understanding of evidence-informed practice, implementation, and knowledge mobilization in schools
-
Knowledge of and experience with community partners to support students and their families Ability to support board-level initiatives that address interventions and programming for students with special education identifications, physical, medical or other presenting needs
Qualifications:

Current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate (required)

Qualifications in three (3) divisions: Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and/or Senior

Special Education Part 1 (required), Specialist (preferred)

Experience working in Special Education role (preferred) Experience in a leadership role or positions of added responsibility (preferred)
