About the role
Overview
The Benefits and Payroll Administrator plays a key role in supporting the People & Culture team by ensuring accurate and timely benefits administration, supporting payroll processing and HR operational support. Reporting to the Head of People and Culture, this role provides and handles the day-to-day administrative functions that keep our people systems running smoothly and essential redundancy for payroll operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working across payroll, benefits, and general HR administration in a growing organization.
Core Responsibilities
Benefits Administration

Administer employee benefit programs including health, dental, life insurance, and RRSP/DPSP plans.

Process benefit enrolments, changes, and terminations in a timely manner.

Act as first point of contact for employee benefit inquiries, liaising with benefit providers as needed.

Support annual benefits renewal process and open enrolment communications.
HR Administration
-
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, documentation, and HR files.

Support onboarding and offboarding logistics, including preparation of offer letters, orientation materials, and exit documentation.

Assist with HRIS maintenance, reporting, and data audits.

Provide general administrative support to the People & Culture team as needed.
Payroll Processing & Support

Process bi-weekly payroll as backup to the Payroll Specialist, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and provincial regulations.

Support payroll data entry including new hires, terminations, status changes, and pay adjustments.

Assist with payroll reconciliation, remittances, and year-end processing (T4s, ROEs).

Maintain payroll records and ensure HRIS data integrity.

Serve as primary payroll contact during Payroll Administrator absences.

Qualifications
Required
-
1–3 years of experience in payroll processing and benefits administration.

Working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and statutory requirements.

Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy with numerical data.

Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
-
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Professional discretion and commitment to confidentiality.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
-
Experience with Payroll Guardian or a like system.
-
Experience in a mid-sized organization (100–500 employees).
-
Familiarity with group benefit plan administration.
-
Experience in wholesale distribution or manufacturing environments is an asset.
