Gerdau is a major steel manufacturing company, operating in 10 countries, and employing over 30,000 individuals. The North American business divisions (Gerdau Long Steel North America and Gerdau Specialty Steel North America) produce long and special steel products for the agriculture, energy, industrial, automotive, and manufacturing markets. We stimulate the economy through our network of recycling operations and mills, operating ten mills in the U.S. and three in Canada. Our mills utilize efficient and clean production practices, including the use of electric arc furnace (EAF) technology. ABOUT G. START, GERDAU'S NEXT GENERATION:
Gerdau is seeking university students to participate in our G. Start program. G. Start is a paid internship program with the goal of developing students for future technical and managerial positions. G. Start internships are project-focused and mutually beneficial. G. Start is a program that values the diversity and inclusion of our business and society.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
An Intern with Gerdau must have an eagerness to grow personally and professionally, being a part of a global company with more than 120 years of entrepreneurship and achievements in the steel industry. This program is for individuals with high learning agility and willingness to adapt and develop continuously, who aim at consistently outperforming in a variety of settings and circumstances.
- Undergraduate entering third or fourth year.
- Pursing a degree in Information Technologies, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related from a recognized accredited college or university. Candidates MUST be returning to full-time studies following this internship.
- Record of high academic achievement (GPA 3.0 or higher preferred).
- Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities.
- Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.
- Candidates much demonstrate leadership potential, strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, initiative, and problem-solving skill
ABOUT THE ROLE:
This position will be a full-time, 16-month long internship opportunity. Candidates MUST be able to work the full 16-months at full-time capacity.
This job opportunity is fully onsite. There are no opportunities for remote work. Candidates MUST be in commutable distance from the facility located at 1 Gerdau Court in Whitby, ON.
- You will be required to walk to different parts of the Gerdau campus and talk to End-Users as part of this role.
- You may be required to carry a minimum of 30lbs of equipment at times.

In Brazil, Gerdau also produces flat steel and iron ore for its own use. As a result of its sustainable production matrix, Gerdau currently has one of the industry’s lowest average greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e), of 0.86t/CO₂e per tonne of steel, which is about half the global industry average of 1.91 t/CO₂e per tonne of steel (worldsteel). By 2031, Gerdau’s target is to reduce its carbon emissions to 0.83 t/CO₂e per tonne of steel.
Gerdau’s shares are listed on the São Paulo (B3), New York (NYSE) and Madrid (Latibex) stock exchanges.
