Position Summary
The City of Fort Saskatchewan’s Public Works Department is currently recruiting for the position of Operator II – Roads Services. Reporting to the Foreman, Roads Services, the Operator II is responsible for the operation and the minor maintenance of most of the City’s heavy equipment. The Operator II also performs duties in relation to the maintenance and construction of municipal infrastructure, including roadways, bridges, drainage infrastructure, and other related duties as assigned. This position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.
Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to dump truck, backhoe, skidsteer, loader and street sweeper.
- Perform inspections of vehicles and report any deficiencies or work required.
- Concrete forming and pouring for sidewalks, sign bases, flat surfaces, curbs, & catch basins.
- Sweep, repair and maintain asphalt surfaces.
- Minor maintenance and washing of equipment.
- Installation, removal and repair of traffic signs.
- Inspect, maintain and replace catch basins, culverts and repairing of storm lines.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent education and a Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License with Air Brake Certification. A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience with heavy equipment and knowledge of different types of construction (i.e., concrete, asphalt, catch basin) is required. This position requires working knowledge of roadway structure construction and maintenance (i.e., traffic lights, road signs, sidewalks, storm sewer installation, concrete inspection, etc.). Experience operating a grader and a dump truck with snowplow/sander equipment is considered an asset. This role requires the ability to work with little or no direct supervision, receiving orders for work verbally or in writing. The position requires shift work, and overtime when necessary. Participation in an on-call schedule is required. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A current Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.
Rate of Pay: $31.28 – $34.38 per hour
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (varying shifts which may include days, evenings, & weekends)
