Job Description
We invite applications for the full-time faculty position ofAcademic Psychiatristwith appropriate experience to work in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences (DPBN), McMaster University and the Mood Disorders Treatment and Research Outpatient Clinic (MDTRC) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The MDTRC is a specialist clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton with a multidisciplinary team that includes experienced clinicians, social workers, an occupational therapist, CBT therapists (providing both individual and standardized group therapy), and experts in behavioral activation who care for individuals with mood disorders. The MDTRC has a strong focus on research and education, so experience or an interest in working within an academic environment is expected.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced academic psychiatrist and clinician–scientist with a strong research profile in mood disorders, particularly treatment resistant depression and bipolar disorder. They will demonstrate the ability to integrate high‑quality clinical practice with innovative and translational research activities. The role requires leadership in advanced clinical studies and the development of emerging treatment approaches. The successful candidate will also provide effective mentorship, contribute to the development of the academic workforce, and build collaborative, interdisciplinary networks that support long‑term program growth and impact.
The academic psychiatrist will be expected to participate in all the appropriate departmental and divisional administrative and educational activities. As the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences and the Mood Disorders Treatment and Research Outpatient Clinic both have a strong research and education mandate, the successful candidate will be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical service and clinical research activities, so candidates with experience in these areas will be preferred.
The successful candidate will hold or be eligible to apply for a valid licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ontario and be a trained psychiatrist with FRCPC or equivalent.
The appointee of this position will hold a full-time academic appointment in Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at an academic rank appropriate to their credentials and experience. The position offers excellent benefits, and remuneration is commensurate with academic rank and position duties and responsibilities.
