About the role

Work to your full scope of practice in the Acute Care, Emergency, or Combined Medical/Surgical department and work with patients of all ages – every day is different! Opened 2017, the High Prairie Health Complex features 30 acute care beds, obstetrics and surgical programs, emergency and outpatient departments and a full suite of healthcare services from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. The attached JB Wood Continuing Care Centre attached to health complex has 67 beds. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being.
  • Utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.
  • Play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
  • Provide safe, quality patient and family‑centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

  • The candidate must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50 lbs.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, demonstrated by the ability to direct other healthcare workers, problem solve and elevate clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • The position requires strong communication and organizational skills and must be committed to patient and family‑centered care.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members.
  • If you are an Internationally Educated Nurse, a 3‑week centralized training program in Edmonton is required prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of emergency or critical care nursing experience.
  • ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP, CTAS – Preference will be given to applicants with these courses.

Additional Information

  • Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
  • Remote Retention Allowance: up to $3,000 annually, payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Security Screening

  • A satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search is required prior to your first day of work. Additionally, all employees have an ongoing duty to disclose any charges or convictions that may occur during their employment with AHS.
