About the role
Meet Benevity
Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We're also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we're as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
High Level Role Overview
Benevity is looking for a Director of DevOps to lead and evolve our DevOps practice. As a strategic leader, you'll provide vision, direction, and mentorship to our teams, guiding them in building scalable, secure, and resilient systems. Leveraging your expertise in cloud-native infrastructure, automation, and AI-driven practices, you'll shape the future of our delivery pipelines, platform reliability, and operational excellence.
In this role, you'll champion a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, ensuring our teams have the tools, processes, and practices they need to succeed. You'll drive initiatives that enhance scalability, accelerate delivery, and strengthen our security posture, while also introducing intelligent automation to reduce toil and increase efficiency. By bridging development, operations, security, and business stakeholders, you'll enable faster, more reliable, and more innovative delivery of value to our clients.
What you'll do:
- Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and coaching to teams. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the teams, enabling them to adopt modern DevOps practices and AI-driven automation at scale.
- Identify opportunities for automation across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors. Champion the adoption of DevOps tools and technologies (CI/CD pipelines, IaC tools, containerization) to streamline workflows and accelerate application delivery.
- Ensure the secure and scalable deployment and management of applications across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). This includes defining cloud architecture, optimizing resource utilization, and implementing cost-effective cloud solutions.
- Integrate security best practices into all aspects of the DevOps lifecycle. Establish clear security policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and mitigate security risks within the infrastructure and applications.
- Foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and feedback within the DevOps team that leverages automation and AI for continuous improvement.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in DevOps, AI and automation, proactively evaluating emerging frameworks and platforms to maintain a competitive, scalable, and innovative DevOps practice.
What you'll bring:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience leading and managing high-performing DevOps and/or Site Reliability Engineering teams. Recruiting, performance management, team culture and engagement, budget and cost control.
- Deep understanding of DevOps principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Familiarity with leveraging AI-driven automation in DevOps practices (such as intelligent monitoring, predictive scaling, or automated incident response) and a strong interest in expanding expertise in this area.
- Solid understanding of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with experience in deploying and managing applications on those platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Chef), containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience in defining, measuring, and optimizing DevOps KPIs to ensure continuous improvement.
