JOB TITLE: Service Technician

POSITION TYPE: Permanent – Full Time

BRANCH: Swift Current, SK 

REPORTING TO: Service Sales Manager

As part of the Service team, you will be an integral part of ensuring parts and machinery are properly functioning—an essential detail in keeping the business running. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Receive repair orders from electronic dispatch and take vehicle to stall area

    • Review with the service advisor any complaints that are not clearly or properly described.
    • Test vehicles when possible.
    • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair
    • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
    • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
    • Help in the estimates of repairs based on parts and labor charges
    • Assist in the expediting of parts orders to avoid wasting shop and customer’s time
    • Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer
    • Return all failed parts replaced under warranty to the parts department for proper storage.
    • Ensure that the warranty parts return log is signed and authorized by the receiving person
    • Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required
    • Consult with service adviser immediately, if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised
    • Make the Service Manager aware of situations where the repair responsibility was originally assessed as one responsibility at RO write up, but during the repair, the cause of the failure results in a change in repair responsibility [i.e. misuse, abuse, damage, lack of maintenance, or a vehicle defect
    • Request approval from Service Manager for any added operations to the repair order performed under warranty, prior to commencing the repair 
    • Clock on and off for each individual repair case. Ensure that the service coordinator is kept apprised of any repair problems encountered
    • Document work performed and utilize separate time punches per operation
    • Document all measurements and results of tests used in the diagnosis and repair. This includes: diagnostic failure code, electrical tests, scanned diagnosis, battery low tests and physical measurements such as bearing clearances, pistons, cylinders, suspension components, etc.
    • Test vehicles to quality check performed repair when possible.
    • Clock off the repair order when all repairs are completed. Fully assess and clearly describe on the computer, the cause of the failure and what was done to correct the problem

Job Requirements and Qualifications Include:

  • Work together as a team
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship
  • Maintain customer satisfaction index rating comparable to [at lease at or above] that of the manufacturer, i.e. Fixed First Visit, CSI, Brand Standards
  • Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
  • Keep shop neat and clean, and be able to account for all dealership owned tools at all times
  • Attend factory sponsored training classes or in house training
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins
  • Attend all service department meetings
  • Adhere to the self audit policy and procedure form
  • Understand and follow Federal and Provincial regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes and safety regulations.
