Summary The Director, Technical Services (IO) acts as the direct counterpart to the IO client Technical Services team lead and is responsible to bring full BGIS capabilities to ensure IO Technical Services fulfill their mandate. The Director, Technical Services acts as the main integrator for the IO account and BGIS Professional Services and the BGIS Global Critical Environment team. The Director, Technical Services also acts to facilitate different BGIS and IO account roles together around Technical Services processes and programs and to develop and implement technical services across the entire IO account.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Technical Subject Matter Expertise Critical Environments
- Responsible for the research, development, implementation, deployment and ongoing management of the corporate critical environment program for the Infrastructure Ontario account.
- Researches, develops, implements, deploys and manages the critical environment and vital environment programs for the Infrastructure Ontario account.
- Provide leadership to the account team members to meet the uptime objectives of the client facilities through management of all operations and maintenance - leveraging information technology, resources and processes while delivering cost effective services.
- Provide leadership, advice and expertise to meet all service level agreements and key performance indicators.
- Provide overall guidance for the development and management analysis of operational plans including management reporting and forecasting.
- Research through various networks for technological changes and industry best practices.
- Act as the representative with the client on matters regarding critical environment standards and maintenance practices.
Technical Project Oversight
- Responsible to provide the IO Client with technical engineering and operational expertise to ensure that projects are designed and delivered in accordance with the IO Design Guidelines and applicable industry standards.
- Provides leadership to Technical Services team members, as well as BGIS Professional Services or BGIS GCET team members involved in the technical oversight of IO projects.
- Manages the processes, controls and measures to ensure consistent and standardized technical services across the IO account.
Relationship Management
- Acts as the direct counterpart to the IO account client Technical Services team lead.
- Representative (1 of 3) of IO account on BGIS Innovation Councils.
- Work in cooperation with site management, client teams and/or subcontractors to implement robust operations and maintenance strategy.
- Work closely with BGIS Professional Services and Global Critical Environment Team. Research, develop and deploy industry best practices.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels, including client Ministry representative.
People Leadership Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their objectives, which supports achievement of our corporate goals. Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Full involvement with recruiting talent.
- Provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to all team members.

Training and Awareness
- Ensure that the Critical Environment Leads and all other personnel associated with the critical sites are trained and competent and will perform daily in a well-planned executed fashion sharing in the sense of urgency surrounding mission critical operations and facilities.
- Develop and implement the critical environment and vital environment awareness and programs pertaining to operations procedure development (EOP, SOP), document management protocols, capacity planning, change management, risk mitigation support, disaster recovery support, incident reporting, point of delivery analysis.
Strategy
- Develop and implement technical services programs across entire IO account - account specific and BGIS corporate.
- Accountable for IO account technical services performance management and value propositions.
- Maintain and manage the critical environment and vital environment strategy in cooperation with the customer’s team and/or critical subcontractors.
Quality Assurance Program
- Executes the quality assurance program and ensure delivery of services meet or exceed the requirements set out in the statement of work of the various contracts and comply with internal BGIS policies and standard operating procedures.
Risk Assessments and Recommendations
- Provide operational and infrastructure risk assessments for critical environments and vital environments as part of an ongoing risk reductions process.
- Investigate and determine root cause of equipment failures.
- Provide recommendations to clients for upgrading equipment and maintenance routines to reduce the risk of unplanned outages.
Service Delivery Management
- Accountable for delivering all client obligations and achieving operational and financial metrics.
- Ensures the manner in which the work is delivered complies with all internal and external requirements.
Knowledge & Skills
- 10 or more years’ experience in mission critical facilities and vital environment operations.
- University graduation or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses).
- Excellent business management/development skills.
- Excellent at planning and organizing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of BGIS building standards and requirements.
- Knowledge of mission critical procedures, reliability, programs and policies.
- Knowledge of industry best practices relating to mission critical infrastructure.
- Ability to implement & deploy critical facilities risk management programs.
- Strong skills at documenting and communicating/training procedures, job tasks, etc.
- Ability to implement & deploy critical facilities risk management programs.
- Strong technical skills in mechanical, electrical, life safety and security systems found in CE environments.
- Skilled at building relationships with client representatives at the senior management level along with related experience.
- Possesses a continuous improvement and quality mindset along with a very high desire to continuously seek and incorporate innovative practices.
- Skilled at managing communication to satisfy the needs of and resolve issues with concerned parties.
- Skilled at managing conflict and gaining concerned parties trust to foster good relations.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- P.Eng. is preferred but not mandatory. Certified Data Centre Professional, CET (Mechanical or Electrical), and/or HVAC or Electrical Interprovincial Trade license.
