About the role

This role is open to candidates located in Toronto or Ottawa.

Why is this role important?

The Senior Analyst plays a key role in organizing and leveraging the pan-Canadian data CIHI holds. This may involve data management, developing and maintaining data and information standards (e.g., methodologies, indicators, and statistics), preparing relevant documentation, providing client support, assessing data quality, producing statistics, fulfilling custom data requests, conducting analysis and contributing to analytical reports. The Senior Analyst participates in department/branch projects and initiatives, as well as other special projects as required.

What you'll do

  1. Work with the Lead to manage CIHI data, ensuring it is fit for purpose, and to support the production of key deliverables for internal and external dissemination. Key deliverables include relevant documentation, data tables, custom data requests, and topical analytical reports.

  2. Conduct data management and analytical activities including writing and updating statistical code required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or verification of key deliverables. This may include support for the release of data and information through private and public reporting tools, including leading the execution of test strategies / test cases to ensure accuracy of the reported results in adherence with CIHI’s corporate information quality frameworks.

  3. Maintain detailed knowledge of data, tools, and analytical techniques used to produce standard and ad-hoc outputs.

  4. Conduct environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.

  5. Contribute to the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and reviews written products for analytic accuracy and quality.

  6. Provide professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries.

  7. Maintain current knowledge of CIHI’s data holdings, trends in health services research and health policy, and stakeholder information needs to support current work and contribute to the development of new analytic proposals.

What you'll bring to the table

  1. Undergraduate degree in Health Information, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics or a related field.

  2. 3–5 years experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulating, maintaining, and preparing data and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.

  3. Experience with CIHI or other health-related data sources.

  4. Advanced proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as Python, R, or equivalent tools.

  5. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.

  6. Proven experience working with large relational datasets and performing rigorous data quality checks.

  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to synthesize complex analyses and present clear, actionable findings.

  8. Clear data storytelling and stakeholder engagement.

  9. Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables.

  10. Familiarity with cloud analytics, reproducible workflow tools and version control (Git).

  11. Experience producing stakeholder facing data visualizations.

  12. Analytical rigor, methodological soundness and quality focus.

  13. Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning (new tools/techniques).

  14. Knowledge of the health care system.

  15. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

  16. Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.

  17. Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
