##Position Description

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Second Class Stationary Engineer
  • Knowledge of automated and computer processes i.e. building management and pneumatic tuble handling systems
  • The ability to assess mechanical malfunctions and enact solutions independently
  • A total of 36 months experience in various size steam plants, with a minimum of 24 months in a plant carrying a rating no lower than the rating of the SJHH Charlton plant at the time of hiring
  • Must be able to troubleshoot malfunctions as needed
  • Precise movement required in the operation of pumps, gauges, boilers, heating units, hand tools, refrigeration and ventilation equipment, plumbing fixtures, steam-distribution systems, computerized building automation system, and other hospital equipment
  • Good work performance and attendance record are essential

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some responsibilities include the following:

  • Operates and maintains equipment in the Steam Plant and fan rooms, such as boilers, compressors, pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, auxiliary diesel, electrical power unit and supply system and exhaust fans throughout the hospital complex
  • Monitors and maintains the pneumatic tube system, notifying appropriate service personnel on off-shifts
  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the Power Plant in the absence of the Manager
  • Ensures the safe, efficient and economical operation of all equipment in the Steam Plant during his/her shift in accordance with the regulations of the Operating ngineers Act
  • Performs the necessary tests and chemical treatment of boiler feedwater, heating water, chilled water, condenser water and soft water
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and maintains a good preventative maintenance schedule
  • Performs related duties to ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of specific equipment as assigned
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory, including ordering supplies and arranging for service contracts
  • Other duties and assignments as delegated by the Manager
