About the role

Permanent Full Time

This position will be located in the Winnipeg head office.

Operational Accounting manages the accounting for Workplace Solutions products including life, health, disability and ASO client transactions.

The Manager, Operational Accounting is responsible for leading a team of workplace benefit accounting experts and providing direction to the broader Finance function. The Manager, Operational Accounting also supports strategic initiatives by working collaboratively with internal business processes to provide expertise on the accounting impact.

What you will do:

  • Lead, support and provide guidance to your team to ensure financial operation processes support accurate and on-time accounting and reporting
  • Supervise, lead, and mentor staff including the coordination, delegation, and prioritization of team tasks
  • Monitor and review balance sheet accounts including suspense accounts
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment to comply with Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICOFR) and the Canadian Standard on Assurance Engagements (CSAE)
  • Provide financial expertise regarding the impact on financial processes, systems and interfaces resulting from business changes and strategic initiatives
  • Accountable for the accurate reporting of premium and administrative fee information for internal management and external stakeholders
  • Support for finance related inquiries with external plan sponsors and implementing solutions to resolve finance issues

What you will bring:

  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to mentor and develop a team
  • Comprehensive financial reporting and accounting experience
  • Ability to manage multiple demands and adhere to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive and professional with an emphasis on collaborative working relationships
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations as they relate to products an asset
  • University degree and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA) (or equivalent combination of education and work experience)
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada website. The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life

The base salary for this position is between $84,900 - $141,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
