Position Description

The McGill University Department of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time faculty position within the Contract Academic Staff, as an academic clinician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be based at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a contract faculty position and does not confer tenure eligibility. Academic rank will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The MCH is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All major pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH. The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine, and our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs and research across our teaching hospitals.

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is a clinically strong group that offers the full range of rheumatology care to children and adolescents. With the addition of a new member, the division will include 4 full time and 2 part-time members with academic expertise in multiple fields including medical education, research, advocacy, and health services delivery. The division is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes administrative assistants, specialized nurses, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, social worker and psychologist. The Division has an active, fully accredited Royal College Pediatric Rheumatology residency program, one of only 3 in Canada and the sole program in Quebec

Candidates will focus on inpatient and outpatient care, as well as teaching (didactic and bedside) and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. The candidate is also expected to contribute to academic rounds, and scholarly activities in this field. Compensation is based on a hybrid model, derived in part from fee-for-service billings.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will serve as an active physician member of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at the MCH, MUHC. Responsibilities include sharing equally in on-call night and weekend duties in Pediatric Rheumatology, approximately 13 weeks of service per year, and holding 3 half-day outpatient clinics each week.

The successful candidate will participate in division meetings and will be required to supervise medical students, residents, and fellows during clinical care, as well as contribute to the pediatric rheumatology training program. Physicians in the Division of Rheumatology also play a key role in our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the learning and professional development of nurses and nurse practitioners. In addition, all faculty in the Department of Pediatrics are responsible for engaging in formal teaching for residents and undergraduate medical students.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree (or equivalent);
  • Hold or be eligible for, licensure to practice medicine from the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  • Have completed postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics and must have completed specialty training in Pediatric Rheumatology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • Be fluent in English and/or French with a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
