Based out of our Powell Service Division (PSD), our Field Journeyman Electrician are responsible for ensuring the end-to-end safety, quality and performance of Powell equipment across Canada. This includes performing installations, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance. The ideal candidate thinks critically, can work well in a team setting, and is a problem solver. Qualified service technicians are provided safety and technical training with full office support.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform industrial electrical services in accordance with standard practices and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC Part 1) which involves the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and utility systems.
  • Perform services including but not limited to the installation of electrical equipment and components, cable tray, conduits, Tech cable and wire, heat trace, grounding and bonding, terminations and testing.
  • Perform the installation of HVAC, Stairs, Landing, Platform and Handrails.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, circuits, equipment and components to make good their repair and restoration.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and defects for their adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Duties will include local and domestic travel, PCR installation, switchgear installation, PowlVac breakers, also trouble shooting, testing and repair of mentioned items.
  • Maintain flexible work hours, which will include over time and periodic weekend support
  • Must be available to travel up to 85% of the year.
  • Test electrical systems, circuits, equipment and components using a variety of tools and equipment including, ammeters, continuity meters, voltmeters, insulation test equipment, etc.
  • Assists Lead Persons with training and mentoring of other employees.
  • Promotes a safety culture as well as attends all safety meetings.
  • Ensures quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Ensures work areas remain clean and well organized.
  • Comply with Powell’s standard operating procedures, documentation processes, safety processes and protocols.
  • Coordinate with Powell Project management, customers, vendors, and labor support in a professional and customer-centric manner

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a valid Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal certification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an Industrial Electrician Role.
  • Safety certifications are an asset for the position.
  • Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre- employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of Switchgears, Motors, MCC’s, PLC’s, transformers and small utility distribution within Modular E- Houses.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards with the ability to refer to the applicable codes.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, applicable electrical codes related to electrical manufacturing.
  • Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and Adheres to Powell’s set of core values and beliefs during both good and bad times.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a “can-do” attitude by collaborating with others to solve problems and drive results.
  • Approaches work consistently and utilize methods to complete and monitor tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes and product changes.
  • Effectively diagnoses problems and influences proper action to resolve them.
  • Able to work effectively within a team and around other departments and their activities.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure adherence to ISO requirements

Working & Environmental Conditions The Field Service team typically performs duties in an industrial environment. This position requires services both locally and across Canada.
