Cobol Developer – Employee Benefits | Insurance Industry Location: Belgium (Hybrid – 2 days/week on-site)
Type: Freelance/Contract
Language Requirements: Dutch (fluent), English (professional), French (nice to have)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Long-term project
We are currently looking for a seasoned Cobol Developer to join a digital transformation initiative within the Employee Benefits domain of a leading player in the insurance industry. You will work on the maintenance and development of business-critical applications running on mainframe environments, supporting complex insurance products and internal operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop Cobol-based applications in line with business and technical requirements.
- Translate functional requirements into solid technical solutions with attention to integration.
- Prepare and execute unit and system tests; support the business during UAT phases.
- Monitor performance and stability of mainframe systems; propose optimizations.
- Collaborate with analysts, testers, and operations in an Agile environment.
- Provide support during implementation and production rollouts.
Your Profile
- Solid experience with Cobol, DB2, JCL, and mainframe systems.
- Proven track record in insurance, preferably in Employee Benefits or Life Insurance.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle in a regulated environment.
- Experience with technical analysis (UML is a plus).
- Comfortable working with Jira, Zephyr, and Agile methodologies.
- Knowledge of other programming languages (Java, Mulesoft) is a bonus.
- Fluent in Dutch and English; French is a plus.
