Job Status: Permanent Position

Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit
Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: Yes, shift work may be required
Rate of Pay: $32.91 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Characteristic Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Citywide Foreperson.

  1. Operate a central equipment pool and ensure optimal use of the pool prior to renting from external suppliers. Store, issue and receive hand tools, machines, operating equipment and safety equipment.

  2. Inspect, test, maintain and conduct minor repairs on small engines, equipment and hand tools. Co-ordinate
    equipment repairs.

  3. Oversee equipment rental and contractors to ensure that suppliers have provided CGS with the appropriate

equipment as specified in the Tender Call, in accordance with CGS’s Purchasing By-law.
4. Under the supervision of the Citywide Foreperson, negotiate rates with contractors and rental companies in the best interest of CGS for equipment that is not under contract.
5. Co-ordinate the rental of vehicles and equipment with users and vendors, and supply equipment to users in a timely manner. Deliver equipment, supplies and materials.
6. Verify condition of rental vehicles on receipt and on return to vendors.
7. Conduct reference checks on prospective rental and contract equipment suppliers. Audit contractor qualifications and training requirements.
8. Provide up-to-date equipment operating procedure forms. Maintain an electronic inventory of equipment and material and monitor inventory levels.
9. Perform routine clerical duties such as but not limited to filing, record keeping, processing invoices for payment, completing various performance and control reports such as expenditure reports, inspection reports, service reports, accident reports, damage settlements reports, etc. Maintain various logs.
10. Maintain a clean and organized warehouse area. Perform other routine labour, as directed.
11. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
12. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience.
  • Mechanical equipment knowledge, as to specifications, equipment capabilities, operation, and tendering procedures.
  • Capable of maintaining work records and understanding equipment service manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability related to file maintenance, email applications, spreadsheet applications and information input/retrieval.
  • Proven capability in dealing with the public and proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, and have an acceptable driving record.
