Location: Remote - Canada
An opening exists in the Education Divisions for the position of Education Intern reporting to the Director of Education Publishing. This is a paid internship opportunity – interns will be compensated at a rate of $17.60/ hour.
Work Location: This is a remote internship. The chosen candidate must be located in Canada and available to work during Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours. Applicants located in the GTA/ Toronto area will have the opportunity to visit our downtown Toronto office and warehouse in Markham.
Role Summary The Education Intern will work closely with the Director of Education Publishing to complete various administrative and editorial work. These tasks include metadata maintenance, creative editorial work, development and tracking of student and teacher print and digital content.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assisting with various developmental tasks such as reviewing, copyedit, or proofread manuscript, updating tracking charts, checking editorial and design changes, photo research, rights checks,
- Assisting with the maintenance of product support websites (reviewing and updating links, adding new content etc.) in WordPress
- Assisting with archiving of print ready files
- Attending publishing, production, and product specific meetings
- Assist Marketing by reviewing/copyediting content on ecommerce site and marketing collateral
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Interest in children’s books, authors, and media
- Personal values that are aligned with Scholastic’s Credo, including a demonstrated understanding of the importance of broadening representation of marginalized communities within the publishing industry
- Exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to multitask and work well in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication skills, good creative writing skills, an eye for detail and a professional attitude
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams), and Google Suite (Google Slides, Drive)
- Working knowledge of WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign are strong assets
