The location in Nekoosa, (Wisconsin, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Engineer-Water. This job is full-time permanent.
Domtar is seeking an Environmental Engineer (Water Focus) at their Pulp & Paper Mill in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. The Environmental Engineer reports the Environmental Manager. The Environmental Engineer, specializing in water, is responsible for ensuring compliance with all water-related environmental regulations and permits within the mill. This role focuses on optimizing wastewater treatment processes, managing water use, and contributing to the mill’s overall environmental sustainability goals.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing the safe and compliant operation of a 18 MGD Activated Sludge WWTP
- Supervise and support WWTP operators
- Coordinate maintenance needs and priorities with mill Maintenance Department
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for water treatment processes
- Maintain water quality-related permits and other relevant state/local permits
- Prepare regulatory reports, ensure inspections and repairs are made in compliance with regulatory schedules
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the mill’s water balance and associated regulatory requirements
- Provide technical support for process control and troubleshooting the wastewater treatment facility
- Manage environmental contractor and consultants in your areas of responsibility
Education and Related Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- 3-5 years of environmental engineering experience, preferably in industrial settings or wastewater treatment
- Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes
- Familiarity with environmental regulations like NPDES and Stormwater
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in pulp & paper industry preferred
- State Wastewater Operator Certification and Solid Waste Disposal Facility Manager Certification desired
- Experience with FERC Regulations a plus

- Ability to work independently or part of a team
- Results-focused, well organized and detail oriented
- Must be availble to support operations on rotating weekends
- Occasional travel may be required
