What is the opportunity?
As Senior Counsel, you will support the goals of the Global Technology &
Trusts Law team in achieving the strategic priorities and operational
performance objectives of Law Group. You will provide support and guidance to
various business partners, stakeholders and functional groups in the areas of
estates, registered plans, powers of attorney, incapacity, trusts and
guardianship in both common and civil law jurisdictions reporting directly to
the Managing Counsel leading the Trusts, Estates, and Capacity Centre of
Excellence.
**What will you do? **
- Identify, assess and mitigate legal, reputational and regulatory risks relating to escalations, client complaints, inquiries and exception requests in the areas of described above.
- Deliver sound legal advice to complex escalations which accords with common law and legislative requirements across RBC lines of business.
- Proactively review relevant legislation and case law that may impact RBC and update stakeholders and business partners alike.
- Collaborate with policy and procedure owners to update internal processes in accordance with RBC’s risk tolerance.
- Lead the team in the creation of legal tools and precedent responses to effectively manage a high volume of inquiries and increase efficiency and consistency in responding to matters.
What do you need to succeed?
**Must-have **
- JD / Bachelor of Law from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, make independent decisions and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent drafting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
**Nice-to-have **
- Proficient in French
- Familiarity with the Civil Code of Quebec.
- Some familiarity with securities regulatory requirements.
- Experience in an in-house setting or financial institution.
