About the Education Specialist (Instructional Designer)
The focus of this job is on producing high-quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures. This is a chance to work in a professional work environment where you are set up to achieve your goals consistently and efficiently, with just the right support and structure.
What you will do:
You will be creating engaging resources – a mix of videos, handouts, and slides – for our online platform. You will use your teaching experience and subject matter expertise to research topics, develop content outlines, and write age-appropriate scripts that include visual cues for our media design team. You will be open to feedback and develop innovative ways to engage learners in an online learning setting.
Education, Training, & Experience Requirements
- A Bachelor of Education (relevant Master's or Ph.D., an asset)
- 2+ years of teaching or facilitating experience
- Subject matter expertise and experience teaching one or more of the following areas: English language arts, math, science, social studies and/or cultural studies for Grades K-12
- Experience working in a First Nations community or with Indigenous groups
- Understanding of Indigenous ways of teaching and learning
- Experience designing online lessons and/or developing curriculum
- Excellent English writing, proofreading, and editing skills
- Ability to think quickly and creatively, with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, autonomously and without supervision
- Ability to create a consistent work output while maintaining quality
- Strong technology skills (Google Docs, Sheets and Meet video conferencing and other online tools required in a 100% remote environment).
- Understanding of, or ability to speak an Indigenous language, an asset (Ojibwe, Cree, Mohawk, Mi’kmaq, etc.)
You must also have:
- A suitable remote work environment
- A suitable broadband Internet connection
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) remote position (EST time zone) offered under a six-month contract with an option to renew. This is not a freelance opportunity.
