About the role

Saltwater Husbandry Technician Tofino, BC

Cermaq Canada is currently seeking permanent full-time Saltwater Husbandry Technicians for our saltwater operations. This position will be primarily based at our sea sites in Tofino, BC. We provide company paid bus and boat transport from communities to our farms in Tofino.

What we Offer:

A Day on The Job:

  • Providing support to the sea site through general husbandry operations to ensure a healthy lifecycle of the fish from smolt intakes, to growth, to harvest
  • Applying appropriate feeding strategies to grow and manage fish welfare, either through hand feeding or auto-feeding techniques
  • Monitoring fish activity and conducting environmental monitoring and sampling activities to ensure proper fish welfare
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and bio secure site by performing simple maintenance, setting up sites, and closing sites
  • Operating heavy machinery such as boats, forklifts and capstans
  • Work a camp shift of 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day

Position Requirements

  • Although prior experience is nice, we will train you
  • Enjoy working outdoors, in all weather conditions in remote work locations
  • Having a positive mindset, be flexible about what you need to do each day
  • A team player, gets along great with others and are always looking to lend a hand
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision; you take initiative and work to keep yourself and your team safe each day.
