Position Scope Reporting to the Senior Systems Engineer, Advanced Automation and Data Integration, the selected candidate will collaborate with the Process Systems Engineering team applying a range of tools and techniques to deliver process modelling, data analytics, advanced automation, and process intelligence solutions. The primary objective is to contribute to projects that enhance CE’s technologies and improve operations for the broader CE team.
- This position is an 8 month or longer co-op term. Expected start date January 2026.
- This position is on-site and based in Squamish, BC.
- The work schedule follows a M-F, 40hrs/week schedule.
- Relocation support is provided.
- This position pays $22-26/hour.

- Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
Technical Responsibilities The key objectives for this position are to enable acceleration of Carbon Engineering’s technology roadmap by supporting demonstration plant operations through two main initiatives:
- leading and/or assisting with the implementation and testing of process metrics, diagnostics and associated visualizations.
- support the integration and testing of advanced process controls and soft sensors.
Detailed Responsibilities Include
- Asset-based Data Modelling:
- Develop asset templates that reflect their functional/logical attributes
- Build and test calculations for asset metrics, diagnostics, ensuring accurate interpretation over various time periods.
- Data Visualization:
- Work with stakeholders from other teams to define objectives or scope for any dashboard or report.
- Devise visualizations that best convey the most important information.
- Demonstrate, test and refine with feedback from target audience
- Advanced controls and instrumentation:
- Using plant simulations, test supervisory control strategies and integration thereof.
- Support the development and testing of soft-sensor systems which intelligently combine information from data historian, process models, lab tests and real-time instrumentation.
Education And Experience Education and Knowledge:
- Completed second year Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Electrical & Computer engineering with coursework and/or experience related to process automation and controls, industrial automation systems, relational databases, graphical user interface and front-end development.
Required Technical Skills
- Experience with technical computing and data analysis; MATLAB or Python (preferred)
- Experience with producing engaging visuals, telling a story from data
Desirable Technical Skills
- Experience with OSI-PI, Asset Framework and PI Vision
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Bokeh or ParaView
- Experience with formulating SQL queries
- Experience in software development
Required Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and share ideas.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn, especially in fast-paced or evolving technical environments.
- Adaptability and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and contribute to creative solutions.
