Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Thermal Networks and Hospital Operations, the incumbent will act as a technical expert supporting the operational activities of our clients’ mechanical infrastructure. These include heating and cooling plants (CHCPs), centrale utility plants (CUPs), district heating and cooling networks, ventilation systems, hydronic networks, instrumentation and control infrastructures, and any other typically critical mechanical systems.

They are responsible for engineering tasks as well as writing reports and analyses on the operation of mechanical equipment. They will also support the planning, design, and execution of construction projects for CHCPs, CUPs and major electromechanical renovations in hospitals.

The incumbent is also responsible for supporting business development as a subject matter expert (SME) for the operation of electromechanical equipment in critical environments. They will participate in technological innovative projects with a mission focused on decarbonization and the reliability of energy infrastructures for critical clients. This role also includes conducting studies and procedures, depending on the need.

Candidates sought for this position must demonstrate past experience in technical competence, quality of produced reports, professionalism, organizational skills, teamwork, autonomy, and adaptability.

Description

Be a leader and role model in occupational health and safety (policies, rules, PPE use, work techniques, etc.) Work with all stakeholders involved in an operations contract or project to clearly define needs and prepare reports when applicable; Analyze needs, interpret and define the scope of required corrective actions, and collaborate with the project management office as needed; Perform calculations related to pumping, steam production, ventilation, sterile environment protection, cooling, etc., depending on the situation; Perform calculations related to energy efficiency and ensure the implementation of corrective measures; Conduct high‑quality studies on the operation of technical installations, particularly regarding applicable regulations for stationary engineers; Write high‑quality reports on technical issues, including deficiency analysis and proposed solutions; Carry out design assist mandates for the design of thermal network projects and mechanical projects in hospitals; Carry out technical activation mandates (Soft Landing) for thermal network projects and mechanical projects in hospitals, including assistance during project handover, commissioning oversight, and validation of project deficiencies; Act as the Owner’s Engineer for our clients’ overseeing the project teams during renovations or construction; Work with various departments to structure needs and meet goals; Manage small‑scale projects; Assist operations teams in management and operations tasks; Act as the SME for the business development teams evaluating new projects pursued by Equans; Work collaboratively, communicate and share information, participate in estimating engineering activity time requirements, and support project follow‑up; Recommend corrective measures when necessary in response to unforeseen events (internal or external) that may arise during project execution; Prepare high‑quality presentations for project stakeholders and Equans senior management; Participate in coordinating calls for tenders with procurement and professionals when required, evaluate bids, and oversee contractor‑executed projects and their post‑evaluation; Ensure the quality of deliverables provided to clients; Monitor project issues, questions, and non‑conformities; Provide technical support to various active sites/projects when necessary; Train internal and external teams on technical subjects; Participate in risk‑management activities for projects and operations contracts; Plan and manage project close‑out activities, including start‑ups, commissioning, and transfer to operations teams; Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

Authorized to work in Canada; Able to obtain required security clearance; Strong competence in building mechanical (HVAC), especially in thermal plant operations and critical mechanical systems; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Engineering, or equivalent training; Project management certifications (e.g., PMP) considered an asset; Experience in building electrical systems considered an asset; Experience in hospital environments considered an asset; Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or another Canadian provincial engineering association; 10+ years of relevant experience in engineering and/or HVAC; Very strong knowledge of building mechanical systems, including thermal plants; Excellent ability to read drawings and specifications; Functional bilingualism in English and French; Ability to travel to worksites and/or client locations; Valid driver’s license; Proficiency with computer systems, especially Microsoft Office; Experience with Building Management Systems (Metasys, Insight, Desigo, Delta, RC Studio, Tracer, etc.) Serving clients in Canada and the United States requires delivering services in the appropriate language to ensure clear and adapted communication. French proficiency (spoken/written): Mastery; English proficiency (spoken/written): Advanced; Frequency of English use: Regular.
