About the role

Summary The Purchasing Engineer is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials, equipment, MRO supplies, and services for the Vaughan, Ontario facility, while developing and managing a reliable, cost-competitive supplier base. This role ensures purchased goods and services meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements and supports the company's compliance with applicable trade and customs regulations. Key Responsibilities Sourcing & Supplier Management Source, evaluate, and develop suppliers for production materials, MRO supplies, equipment, and services. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to support cost and delivery targets. Maintain ongoing supplier performance evaluations, including quality, delivery, and responsiveness. Manage supplier claims and corrective actions for quality issues or non-conformances. Procurement Operations Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring on-time delivery of materials and supplies to support production schedules. Maintain accurate purchasing records and reconcile supplier accounts/invoices on a regular basis. Reduce reliance on undocumented or non-contracted purchases by ensuring purchase orders and supplier agreements clearly capture quality, technical, and commercial requirements. Track and report on cost savings initiatives and annual cost-reduction targets. Cross-Border Trade & Compliance Maintain working knowledge of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA/USMCA) and applicable tariff classifications as they affect sourcing decisions and total landed cost. Monitor regulatory and tariff developments affecting cross-border procurement and flag risks or cost impacts to leadership. Support efforts to meet regional content/localization requirements applicable to automotive supply agreements. Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers as needed for imported materials and equipment. Quality & Safety Apply working knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements relevant to supplier qualification and purchasing documentation. Support corrective action processes to maintain low supplier defect rates (PPM). Follow workplace health and safety procedures in accordance with WHMIS and OHSA requirements. QualificationsEducation Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field. Certifications & Licences (assets unless noted) Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or CPSM designation is an asset. Experience 3+ years of purchasing experience in a mechanical/manufacturing environment, with supplier management experience. Experience in automotive or die casting supply chains is an asset. Technical Skills Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; ERP/procurement system experience an asset. Understanding of mechanical/manufactured product characteristics and project-based purchasing. Core Competencies Strong negotiation, analytical, and cost-analysis skills. Excellent organizational and cross-functional coordination skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; Mandarin language skills are an asset for liaising with overseas suppliers and technical staff. Sound judgment and integrity in supplier relationship management. Working Conditions Based at the Vaughan, Ontario manufacturing facility, with regular interaction with production and quality teams. Standard business hours, with flexibility for supplier coordination across time zones. Periodic travel to supplier sites required.
