Co-op Student - Electrical Engineering - GMS Generating Station - Fall 2026

Annual salary: $1,792.24 - $2,257.45 biweekly
What you'll do
Candidate selection, interviews and hiring will take place continuously from this single posting – this means while there is a

The location for this Fall September 2026 co-op postings is by the GM Shrum Generating Station (GMS) near Hudson's
Hope, Northern British Columbia.
Co-op engineering students supporting field maintenance engineering (FME) work under the direct supervision of a
professional engineer throughout their rotation. This FME co-op position is headquartered at GM Shrum generating facility,
located a short drive from the town of Hudson’s Hope, BC.
The successful candidate will contribute to maintenance and repair for ten hydro generators in a facility that can generate
up to 2800 MW. Examples of work in this role may include review of completed maintenance results, troubleshooting, root
cause analysis, assessing risks to determine serviceability, and prescribing corrective actions. FMEs provide technical
support for repair and capital investment and provide guidance for operational and maintenance decisions. This role is
hands-on in the field and will require the successful candidate to work with engineers, management, trades, environmental
and safety specialists, and many other stakeholders. Strengths that will serve you well in this role are ability to work in a
small town, an interest in hydro generation, a practical problem-solving approach, and a solid foundation in electrical
engineering coursework.

Depending on what team the successful candidate is hired into, duties can also include some of the following:

Provide assistance and support to electrical engineering teams

Participate in high value, multi-disciplinary project work and gain valuable insight into the organization and implementation
of large capital projects. Gain exposure to the exciting and increasingly growing hydro electric industry.
What you bring
- To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be enrolled in a Co-op Program and have yet to graduate from a recognized
post-secondary institution in Canada

Completed a minimum of 4th year of Electrical Engineering Degree studies at an accredited university
-
Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented.
What we offer

A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required for this role. There is no public transportation available to the facility.

As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required.

All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity to extend, to eight
months.
- Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and it is the student’s responsibility to relocate
themselves if necessary.

Flexible work model role definitions:
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work
they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements.
Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person
time.
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
