The Senior Manager, Quality & Compliance, reports to the Senior Director of the Quality and Risk team within the office of the Chief Medical Officer. This position will lead legislative/regulatory compliance activities across long-term care operations by supporting Extendicare’s Quality and Operations teams in driving measurable compliance, safety, quality assurance and risk outcomes.
This role will be based in Markham Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment. Some travel will be required.
Responsibilities
- Leads and manages the national LTC compliance program, including continuous improvement of program processes, development of education programs, and communications to LTC operations.
- Leads compliance reporting to operations and head office leaders, from monthly to quarterly reporting on trends and data, to ad hoc reports, as required. Supports development of quarterly compliance reports to executive and board of director audiences.
- Leads compliance support activities to homes, including managing the activities and performance of Compliance Consultants assigned to support homes with in-person visits and other compliance support required.
- Provides in-person support to homes in meeting legislative/regulatory requirements across Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba, with approximately 50% of time spent conducting in person visits, coaching home and regional teams in the development of the action plan related to areas of non-compliance, implementation of the actions, and development of a sustainability plan.
- Provides investigative coaching to home and regional leaders into care concerns including interviewing staff and residents.
- Provides coaching to direct care staff in addressing care concerns resulting in compliance findings.
- Collaborates with operational and head office leaders in the monitoring of compliance activities, including identification of compliance and risk trends, and development of appropriate actions and recommendations to address these.
- Maintains expert knowledge of long-term care regulatory/legislative and compliance requirements across Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta
- Works in partnership with head office and operations leaders in advancing a resident safety culture.
- Works in partnership with IPAC, Risk, Quality, clinical and allied head office functions, in meeting Accreditation standards, and preparing for quality assurance surveys.
- Contributes to the development of new policies and guidelines as required, is in accordance with regulatory compliance needs.
- Participates in the development of new programs, in collaboration with department and other corporate and operational stakeholders, as required.
Skills & Experience
- Degree/diploma in health care discipline with nursing preferred
- 15+ years of experience in long-term care in an operational or quality leadership role
- Expert knowledge of LTC industry legislative requirements and continuous quality improvement (CQI) principles and approaches
- Willingness to become knowledgeable on provincial legislation and standards outside of applicant’s home province
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong analytical skills, including use of Excel
- Demonstrated ability in using business intelligence and reporting tools
- Client service orientation and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook.
