About the role

The United Church of Canada is seeking a Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) Administrator for the Finance Unit. The Finance Unit ensures efficient and effective accounting operation, financial reporting and budget management for the General Council Office and its related entities. In addition to these regular financial management tasks, the Finance unit also provides advisory services to congregations around financial and compliance matters; oversees the nationally sponsored property and liability insurance coverages; and administers various capital assistance programs. The unit also has responsibility for the information technology needs of the General Council and Regional Council offices.

The PAR Administrator will administer the Pre-Authorized Payments and Remittances. They are responsible for the financial and record keeping systems of the PAR program ensuring that all financial transactions, sub-ledger reconciliations, and year-end activities are processed in an accurate and timely manner. If work is not done in, a timely and accurate manner there could be consequences to donors and churches such as financial loss and impact on credit rating for donors and loss of operational efficiency for Communities of Faith.

Primary Areas of Responsibility

  • Provide program details to new and prospective PAR clients.
  • Verify client data, ensure compliance with Payments Canada standards, and communicate regulatory updates.
  • Maintain PAR database and manage participant records.
  • Collaborate with IT and program staff on database updates and improvements.
  • Maintain confidential filing systems and contact mailing lists.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly electronic transfer files.
  • Print and distribute statements.
  • Process NSF adjustments and generate related client communications.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding statements, NSF issues, and general PAR administration.
  • Support audits, assist other staff during peak periods, and train contract staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, preferably with an accounting background with at least 3 years of work experience in data entry and data cleansing;
  • Solid mathematical and computer skills in the use of various software applications - Office 365 (Excel in particular), Dynamics, Sybase, SharePoint, One Drive, Teams, Zoom and other online platforms;
  • Experience with Business Central would be considered an asset;
  • Data entry and database management skills;
  • Organization, time management, planning skills prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to solve problems and think beyond the routine, using resources effectively and efficiently;
  • High and consistent attention to detail for accurate data entry; Failure to do so affects donor credit ratings;
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, judgment and discretion with confidential information; and
  • Knowledge of donor relations and stewardship is important and would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions

The United Church of Canada has adopted a hybrid workplace model, providing flexibility for this position, working both off-site and in the General Council Office, currently located in Toronto, ON. The incumbent will be provided, for work purposes, use of secure devices and must be available by email, phone, teams or zoom during regular office hours Monday to Friday. Sitting and viewing a computer screen for long periods, keyboarding/using assistive devices or technologies, intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing and being on a call for long periods of time will be required. Occasional additional hours may be required.

Compensation

The salary hiring range for this position is $46,390 to $52,872 with the with the ability to progress to a maximum of $61,853. This is based on category 3 on our salary range. Placement on the salary range will be based on factors such as market condition, internal equity, candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role. Pension and group benefit plans coverage and annual vacation round out this compensation package.
