We are looking for a Controls Engineer who will be responsible for designing various mechanical devices that will be vital in developing machinery and/or large structures and working closely with our team of Project Managers, Shop Personnel to ensure project success. We are looking to add someone to our team who is a lateral thinker, able to navigate complexity and embrace ambiguity. It is crucial that our Controls Engineer promote a positive company image through safety, quality, consistency, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and update electrical schematics, layouts, loop diagrams, and Process and Instrumentation drawings using AutoCAD, ensuring control system documentation supports manufacturing and integration
  • Design and implement new controls systems, including PLC/DCS programming HMI development and SCADA integration
  • Design controls systems for the integration of customer supplied equipment
  • Create, expand and maintain engineering standards and design libraries
  • Develop extensive knowledge of product line, preferred practices, and all applicable industry standards
  • Regularly communicate project status with key stakeholders
  • Select appropriate instrumentation (eg. Transmitters, sensors, valves, actuators, etc.)  based on process requirements and industry standards
  • Always conduct oneself in a professional manner in alignment with Company values, including but not limited to language use, attire, and workmanship
  • In accordance with Company policy and relevant employment legislation, overtime and work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the Company
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

Key Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in automation or material handling
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical schematics and layouts
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems
  • Knowledge of motors, motor control systems, and automation hardware
  • Experience with custom automation, conveyors, or material handling systems (asset)
  • Resourceful and results-driven with a focus on completing tasks on time and within budget
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective in cross-functional teams and fast-paced environments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work with engineering teammates and shop floor staff
