The Opportunity
As and administrative and financial services specialist, the Accounting Generalist is an important part of our finance team. Working with the Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, you'll provide information to Banff Centre staff on financial policies, as well as ensuring the smooth running of the department. We are looking for someone who is professional, customer service focused, with an eye for detail and strong communication skills.
Specific Accountabilities
- Administer month-end procedures including purchase order accruals, GST self-assessment journal, utilities accruals, analyze AP subledger after month-end closure
- Assist with policy compliance reviews and planned audits and communicate any issues with the Manager
- Follow up with time sensitive or outstanding transactions and ensure all GL coding is accurate and complete
- Run daily/weekly/monthly reports, code accounts, ensure accurate GL codes for month end closing periods
- Assist staff with the corporate card programs - reviewing travel card applications for accuracy, setting up new accounts
- Manage the Shell Fleet program and ensure the accuracy of fuel card online payments
- Work with web-based platforms to set up user profiles
- Maintain procedures for protection, retention, record disposal and retrieval
- Design and implement physical filing systems and maintain compliance and best practices
- Handle questions or complaints from staff or external clients professionally
- Create new vendors, expense claims and payment requests as necessary
- Monitor and maintain inventory of office supplies, cheques
- Conduct training sessions for staff on different topics including NAV purchase and payment requests, BMO corporate card program, vehicle and travel expense processes, expense claims, purchase requests, understanding of charts of accounts and other NAV reporting tools.
- When needed, support the purchasing manager through processing of purchase orders and requests, and answer questions from staff
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- 3+ years' experience gained while working in an accounting office environment as well as previous experience in accounts receivable and payable.
- Completion of high school required. College certificate in accounting is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (Nav, Spend Dynamics) and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of accounting, data and administrative practices and procedures.
- Demonstrates strong communication and customer service skills, confident and comfortable working with all internal and external customers of Banff Centre.
- Excellent time management skills, attention to detail, ability to effectively prioritize work.
Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
- The annual salary for this position is between $44,499.00 and $52,215.80, depending on experience, based on working 35 hours per week.
- The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
