About the role

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Safety Advisor, Major Projects on a permanent basis on our Health & Safety team. This position requires on-site work at our Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) in Regina, SK.

The Safety Advisor, Major Projects plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our people and projects. What you’ll do:

  • Plan and coordinate project safety by conducting risk assessments, aligning safety measures with operational priorities, and collaborating with internal teams and contractors.
  • Integrate safety into engineering deliverables, lead safety reviews, and ensure compliance with regulatory codes and corporate HSE standards.
  • Provide onsite safety leadership during construction, oversee contractor HSE programs, monitor high-risk activities, and drive a strong safety culture.
  • Manage incidents and investigations, ensuring timely reporting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain safety programs, including HSE management plans, emergency response plans, and safety manuals, while monitoring effectiveness through audits and inspections.
  • Communicate and mentor on safety practices, deliver regular safety updates, participate in committees, and support emergency response roles.

Who you’ll work with:

You will work closely with construction/project managers, contractors, and safety personnel at CRC and CEC and will report into the Director, Health & Safety. You will provide advice and guidance and, in some instances, provide directions to all employees, management as well as all contractors regarding Safety issues. This team strives to cultivate a culture of safety first, open communication, cross-functional collaboration, continuous learning, and adaptability.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Health, Safety, Security, & Environment (HSSE) & Sustainability and:

  • Have 6-9 years of relevant progressive experience as an industrial and construction health and safety or in a related industry/
  • Have a university degree or a 2-year Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety through an accredited college with extensive knowledge/experience in the construction and engineering field or equivalent experience (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Have a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation and have the ability to challenge for a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation within 3 years.
