Job Summary
The Fiber and Structured Cabling Supervisor is responsible to oversee and supervise the entire client site for Tridon Communications and is responsible for overseeing the operations of the fiber and structured cabling technicians on site. They will ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards and that the customer’s needs are met. They will be the main point of contact for the customer on site, resolving any concerns and building strong customer relationships. The Supervisor will be responsible to train, coach, and mentor their technicians on proper work practices, proper techniques and ensure that safe work practices are followed at all times. The Fiber and Structured Cabling Supervisor is expected to ensure that the work gets done and will be expected to execute work, lead from the front and by example. A high level of industry knowledge and experience is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, and maintain drawings and specifications
- Supervise the installation of structured cable components. (Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Fiber Optic)
- Supervise the installation and testing of communication circuits via available communications cabling network
- Execute, supervise, or assign the service, maintenance, and troubleshooting on commercial and/or industrial communication circuits and/or cabling networks
- Execute, supervise, or assign the repair or replacement of faulty components if necessary
- Execute, supervise, or assign the repair and adjusting of valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Provide hands on support to work crews as required.
- Able to read and interpret telecommunication drawings and specifications
- Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned apprentices and new workers
- Facilitate employee development and training
- Provide high level estimates on large cabling jobs ($25k-$100K) and detailed estimates on smaller jobs ($1k-$25k)
- Review scope of work and billings of materials for accuracy.
- Review quotes and projects with Senior Managers before implementation
- Collaborate on the review of all service-related actual to estimate data after the completion of service quotes or for quoted projects
- Ensure all data from technical staff is submitted and entered into the business system in a timely manner including LEM’s, work orders, incidents, etc.
- Review and approve service order input
- Facilitate weekly toolbox talks
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of service shop and bay areas
- Ensure equipment inspections, maintenance, and service is completed (Fleet Vehicles and Company Tools)
- Participate in regular team meetings to communicate all applicable company information
- Help to ensure safety and maintenance deficiencies identified in Safety inspections are corrected in a timely fashion
- Contribute on semi-annual employee appraisals on service staff
- Represent the company in a professional face to face manner with the customer directly requesting the work when needed
- Excellent customer service skills
- Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in a supervisory role overseeing fiber optic and structured cabling installations, preferably within the telecommunications or network infrastructure sector
- A diploma in a related field is preferred; post-secondary education is encouraged
Asset
- CommScope Systimax certification training is an asset.
- Belden certification training is an asset.
- Corning certification training is an asset.
- TE Connectivity certification training is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Full, valid, and current driver’s license
- Clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Clear Criminal Background Check
- Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients

The Fiber and Structured Cabling Supervisor reports directly to the General Manager, Terrace, BC. The incumbent also works directly with:

Physical Demands:
The Site Superintendent must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting, walking, and/or standing. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs for short distances.
