About the role

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

Summary

The Marketing and Customer Service Summer Student reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible to assist with the activities of the Administrative Assistant, Customer Service Coordinator, and Operations Coordinator to complete general tasks as well as to assist with a variety of marketing activities in the community. Success in the role requires effective communication skills for both internal and external customers, working collaboratively with others to trouble shoot minor issues. Creativity and the ability to be a “self starter” to create basic marketing materials and find ways to actively promote FBCL’s ConneXion program is a focus/priority.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Support - 40%

  • Support the Administrative Assistant and act as a back up to cover peak times or vacation by answering incoming calls, supporting walk in customers, mailing information, and responding to emails to troubleshoot basic issues.
  • Tracks incoming mail and distributes accordingly, prepares for outgoing mail, including shipments by couriers.
  • Assists with the preparation and updating of daily, weekly and monthly reports for operational performance metrics on standard templates.
  • Assists with ordering of supplies; and,
  • Assists with minute taking for meetings.

Customer Service Support - 20%

  • Assists the Customer Service Coordinator with reviewing and resolving minor customer issues;
  • Answers phone call when the Customer Service Coordinator is unavailable and provide basic information or escalate the issue to a higher level; and,
  • Assists with mailings related to the prepaid toll program.

Marketing – 40%

  • Attends specific events in the local area and staff a booth creating awareness about FBCL’s ConneXion Prepaid Toll Program, promoting it and assisting with customer sign-ups for accounts;
  • Assists in creating and staffing an event that provides basic computer assistance to sign up for a ConneXion Prepaid Toll Account; and,
  • After each event create a brief memo on what worked well, what could be improved upon and how many sign-ups were completed.

Essential Qualifications

  • Student enrolled in postsecondary program with a preference given to those in business, marketing, and event management related fields of study;
  • Prior experience in hospitality or customer service is required;
  • Experience in dealing with the public and answering incoming calls is required;
  • Experience in resolving minor customer issues required;
  • Experience in digital marketing is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Sarnia-Lambton area is asset;
  • Knowledge of Canva and other design tools is an asset;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Proficient skills and experience in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and TEAMS products is desired;
  • Possession of a valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance is required; and,
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain bilingual English and French (Bilingual – BBC) level is required.
